Carbon Trade Exchange is a global electronic trading platform serving the compliance and voluntary carbon markets
Carbon Trade Exchange (CTX) has been established to aid the growth and transparency of the carbon markets and become the world’s most inclusive trading platform. CTX maximises the environmental benefits of carbon trading by bringing unrivalled liquidity and reach to all market participants.
With members in 25 countries, CTX offers its members a trusted and transparent electronic marketplace for buying and selling carbon credits. CTX supports the trading of carbon credits that are originated under both the United Nations Clean Development Mechanism (CERs) and independent voluntary standards (VERs). Our platform allows businesses to meet their compliance obligations under the EU Emissions Trading Scheme and voluntarily offset residual carbon emissions to become carbon neutral.
CTX has partnered with banks, registries and voluntary standards to ensure that all carbon credits traded on the exchange originate from high quality verified and additional carbon projects as well as being legitimately owned by the seller involved. Our direct electronic interface with APX Verified Carbon Standard (VCS), The Gold Standard, American Carbon Registry (ACR) and Climate Action Reserve (CAR) makes us the only exchange in the carbon market that can provide complete end to end electronic transactions in the voluntary carbon market. We are also capable of electronic trading in the compliance markets and will shortly be able to offer end to end electronic services in this area.
CTX now has its headquarters in Sydney, Australia with offices in London and San Francisco providing a dynamic and highly experienced environment with a management team supported by a global board of Directors, led by founder and CEO Wayne Sharpe. Sharpe’s passionate commitment to combating global warming led to the conception and development of the CTX model, using 20 years of knowledge and experience gained by building Bartercard into the world’s largest credit unit exchange. CTX uses the award-wining software and systems developed for Bartercard; the world’s largest trade exchange which today handles USD $2 billion in annual trade turnover with 75,000 businesses.
CTX is a member of the International Emissions Trading Association (IETA) and the Climate Markets & Investors Association (CMIA) and actively participates in discussion groups with the aim of adding further value to the industry.
